Weight-loss is a national obsession in the U.S., where obesity has
reached epidemic proportions. As a result, new diet plans are marketed
with regularity. However, they tend to focus on long-term
weight loss,
at a rate of 1 to 3 pounds a week. Losing weight fast, such as to get
ready for a wedding or other special occasion, requires another
approach. One proven plan is known as the Alabama 3-Day Diet and it
results in the loss of up to 10 pounds in three days, according to diet
review resource My Lifestyle Diet, where 82 percent of readers say they
liked its results. But, cautions My Lifestyle Diet, the weight lost is
water weight and long-term use of the diet can carry health risks.
Instructions

-
Eat 1/2 grapefruit or drink a glass of grapefruit juice for
breakfast on the first day. In addition, eat one slice of toast with one
tablespoon of peanut butter. Drink black coffee or tea. For lunch, eat
1/2 cup of tuna with a slice of toast and black coffee or tea. For
dinner, eat 3 ounces of any meat with 1 cup of string beans, 1 cup of
carrots or beets, 1 small apple and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.
-
Eat 1 hard-boiled egg and 1 slice of toast for breakfast on
the second day, along with 1/2 banana and black coffee or tea. For
lunch, eat 1 cup of cottage cheese or 1/2 cup of tuna, along with 5
Saltine crackers. For dinner, eat 2 hot dogs with 1 cup of cabbage or
broccoli, 1/2 cup carrots or turnip greens, 1/2 banana and 1 cup of
vanilla ice cream.

Eat 1 hard-boiled egg and 1 slice of toast for breakfast on
the third day, along with black coffee or tea. For lunch, eat 1 slice of
cheddar cheese, 5 Saltine crackers, 1 small apple and black coffee or
tea. For dinner, eat 1 cup of tuna with 1 cup of carrots or beets, 1 cup
of green beans or cauliflower, 1 cup of cantaloupe or 1 small apple,
and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.
-
Drink some water during the day, but not a lot. Experts say
the diet succeeds because it helps you shed water weight quickly.
Therefore, drinking too much water will undermine your results. However,
not drinking any water could lead to dehydration.
-
Be aware of the diet's restrictions. Do not use it for more
than 3 days at a time. After that, return to your normal diet, but
manage your calories carefully to keep off the weight you have lost. If
you want to continue to
lose weight, limit yourself to 1,500 calories a
day for four days, then return to the Alabama 3-Day Diet for another
cycle. Then repeat the full cycle two more times. By doing that, if you
are obese, you can lose up to 40 pounds in a month. Normal, healthy
people who are overweight can typically lose about 20 pounds in a month
on the plan.
